Attorney Rita Kostopoulos

A. Rita Kostopoulos is the founder of The Fresh Start Law Firm. Rita was admitted to practice law 2001. Rita's areas of practice include consumer bankruptcy, business law and real estate law. She has been exlusively practicing bankruptcy law since 2003. In addition, Rita holds a Real Estate Brokers License and is the owner of El Greco Realty LLC.


Rita attended Wayne State University and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree with a major in Management in May 1998 ("Cum Laude"); and immediately enrolled at Wayne State University School of Law (J.D. recieved in May of 2001). Rita is a former law clerk to the Honorable James Biernat Sr., Macomb County Circuit Court, from 2000-2001.


State Bar of California; admitted to practice in the Northern and Central Districts of California; United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan; in the United States District Court, Western District of Michigan; Consumer Bankruptcy Association Member, American Bankruptcy Institute Member, and member of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association as well as various Bay Area trial lawyers associations. In addition, Rita is president of the Hellenic Bar Association, speaks reads and writes Greek fluently.

Richard Suh


Richard Suh is licensed to practice law in the State of California, and is an associate attorney at Kostopoulos Law Group PC locations in Oakland and San Francisco. Richard graduated from Stanford University in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in History and received his JD from UCLA Law School in 1996. Richard has extensive experience in all aspects of Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy practice. Richard speaks fluent Korean.

Carrie O'Reilly


Carrie A. O'Reilly is an associate in the firm of Kostopoulos & Associates, PLLC. Carrie received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 2000 and graduated with her juris doctorate degree from California Western School of Law in 2003. She is licensed to practice in the State of Michigan as well as the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan and District of Colorado. Carrie has been named a Superlawyer: Michigan Rising Star from 2010-2012 as well as published in the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal in August 2013. Carrie has practiced primarily consumer bankruptcy law since February 2005.

Heather Burnard


Heather Burnard is an associate at the firm of Kostopoulos & Associates, PLLC. Heather recieved her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1999. She graduated with her Juris Doctorate form the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2002. She is licensed to practice in the Eastern District of Michigan since 2004. She has been a member of the Oakland County Bar Association, Young Lawyers of Oakland County, American Bankruptcy Institute, Consumer Bar Association, and National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. Heather has attended many seminars presented by these organizations in order to keep current on the bankruptcy laws and trends.

Toni Valchanov


Toni is an Associate Attorney at the law firm of Kostopoulos & Associates, PLLC. Toni attended Oakland University and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with a minor in Business in 2003. He recieved his Juris Doctorate degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2011 and was admitted to the Michigan State Bar and the Eastern District of Michigan. While in law school, Toni enrolled in Oakland Univeristy and recieved his Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Business Economics in 2012.

Kristen Cady

Kristen Cady has been a legal assistant at the law firm of Kostopoulos & Associates, PLLC since 2008.

Bridget Rodway

Bridget Rodway has been a legal assistant at the law firm of Kostopoulos & Associates, PLLC since 2008.

Tina Kostopoulos

Mrs. Kostopoulos is a mail clerk at the law firm of Kostopoulos & Associates, PLLC.

Nada Zaya

Nada has worked as a legal assistant for Kostopoulos & Associates PLLC since April 2010.

Ellen Reams

Ellen joined Kostopoulos & Associates, PLLC in December 2012. She graduated in June 2009 with her Associates degree in Paralegal Studies. She has been working in the bankruptcy field for almost four years.

Pristina Winston

Prestina Winston is a legal assistant with over 15 years of Bankruptcy experience. She is a graduate of Siena Heights University with a B.A. in English.

Rubi Alejandra Villanueva

Rubi Villanueva is a legal assistant. She is a graduate from Chabot College with an Associates in Administration of Justice and an Associates in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Behavioral Sciences. Ruby is bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish.

Jossel Mansour

Jossel Mansour is a receptionist at Kostopoulos & Associates, PLLC she is currently studying at MCC majoring in Business Administration.

Leo Alexander

Leo is the Office Manager/Bookkeeper for Kostopoulos & Associates, PLLC. He has been with the firm since December 2004. Prior to his entry in the legal environment, Leo was a retired Mechanical Engineer and Business Investor. He was formaly employed at Boeing Aircraft and AT&T.
